July 2024

Hello Clermont Champions!

It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of summer. Fall is quickly approaching and brings with it a new school year, the busiest months of hurricane season, a new budget, and elections.

August 12 is the first day of school and our streets and sidewalks will get busy as our students and teachers make their way back to the classrooms. Let’s all remember to slow down in and around the school zones, watch for school buses, and those walking and biking to school.

While Florida’s hurricane season officially began in June, August is the time we usually begin to see an increase in tropical activity. If you haven’t already, please take the time to stock your emergency kit and prepare your family, home, and business for potentially severe weather. The City’s website, https://www.clermontfl.gov/434/Get-Storm-Ready-Now is your resource for storm preparation, as well as all storm-related details and regular updates if we are threatened.

Clermont City Council and City staff continue to work on finalizing the FY 2024-25 Budget. There are several upcoming meetings and I encourage you to attend and let us know how you want your tax dollars spent. Open to the public, these meetings will be held at Clermont City Hall, 685 W. Montrose Street:

• 9 a.m., Wednesday, 8/21 – Council workshop

• 6:30 p.m., Thursday, 9/12 – First public hearing on adoption of FY 2024-25 Budget and Mileage Rate

• 6:30 p.m., Thursday, 9/26 – Final vote to adopt the FY 2024-25 Budget and Mileage Rate

The 2024 Primary Election is August 20 followed by the General Election on November 5.

I believe it is a critical time in our community and our country and these elections will decide very important positions. Polls will be open each day from 7 am to 7 pm so please exercise your right to vote and make your voice heard. Visit www.lakevotes.com for election details.

We continue “Lunch with the Mayor” and if your schedule allows, I hope you will plan to join us on the first Tuesday of each month at different Clermont restaurants. While I don’t buy your lunch, I do provide updates on City events, activities, and services and answer questions. On August 6, we will meet at Miller’s Ale House, 1555 S. Grand Highway, and on September 3, at Cracker Barrel, 1520 E. Highway 50.

Thank you to so many who reached out with warm wishes that made my 70th birthday so very special. I continue to feel blessed and thankful for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor and look forward to continuing to work hard for Clermont. If you have questions or concerns, you can always reach me at tmurry@ClermontFl.org.

Until next time,

Mayor Tim Murry
