OAKLAND – Highlighting the successful story of restoration, the Town of Oakland and the Healthy West Orange Arts & Heritage Center at the Town of Oakland are thrilled to announce an exciting series of events that tell the story of Lake Apopka through an art + history exhibit, running August 16, 2024, through October 25, 2024.

The exhibit opens on Friday, August 16, 2024, showcasing art and photography from more than 30 local artists. The reception will also include alligator encounters from Gatorland, live banjo music from Anthony Dixon, a beloved local theme park musician, and food offerings from Hot Dog Therapy, Clukerz Chicken, and Oakland General.

Ansa du Toit, Marie Dudek Brown, David Minichiello, Bev Nethers, Robin Ulery, Joseph Warren, Sidney Barger, Xamara Maisonet, Wei-Shen Chin, Matthew Chin, Lauren Chin, Karina Ross, Lori Warren, Jan Pewsey, Sara De Jesus, Jennifer Walker, Reed Walker, and Shelley Connard.

The public is invited to attend this free event and admire the artwork and photographs from award-winning artists while also learning of Lake Apopka’s rich history, starting as a bass fishing tourist destination in the 1920’s to turning toxic green and the successful restoration efforts led by the Florida Legislature, St. Johns River Water Management District, and Friends of Lake Apopka.
