Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Center for Women and Babies is offering the Get Ready series, including a new class on pelvic floor recovery, where women can attend in-person classes designed to prepare them for birth, baby and beyond.

Ready for Birth is a prepared childbirth class on exercises to prepare mother for giving birth, relaxation and coping techniques, pain control options, labor positioning, induction and C-section basics, recovery, and welcoming baby.

  • Every other month, this class is offered in Spanish.

Ready for Breastfeeding, a prenatal breastfeeding class focused on benefits of breastfeeding for baby and mom, covers what to expect when initiating breastfeeding, skin-to-skin holding, positioning, deep latch techniques, pumps and pumping, and basic troubleshooting.

  • Offered on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 6 to 8 pm, and Saturdays, 10 am  to 12 pm.

Ready for Baby is a newborn care class on what to expect during the hospital stay, infant nutrition options, immunization facts and options, developmental milestones, soothing baby and newborn hygiene.

  • Class is offered on select Tuesdays, 6 to 7:30 pm.

Ready to Restore Your Core and Pelvic Floor addresses common issues like back and pelvic pain, diastasis recti (abdominal separation), urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. Women can learn what changes to expect after giving birth, how to prepare for childbirth and how to maximize recovery.

  • Class is offered monthly. The next class is Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 6 to 7:30 pm.

“It’s so important that the women in our community and their families have support as they prepare for their babies, and that’s why we’re proud to offer this education series,” said Lisa Bishop, director of nursing operations at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Center for Women and Babies. “Our experts are here to equip women with the tools and knowledge they need to get ready to welcome their little ones as well as take care of themselves postpartum.”

Orlando Health also recently released a survey that found many people mistakenly think signs of pelvic floor dysfunction following childbirth are normal.

The Get Ready classes take place in-person at the hospital, located at 1900 Don Wickham Drive in Clermont. Registration is required, and those interested can visit Get Ready Series – Prenatal Education Classes – South Lake Hospital. Women are encouraged to bring their partners or supporting loved ones.

A maternal education counselor is also available to help select classes and discuss birth plans. Those interested should call (352) 386-1185 to book a 15-minute appointment with a counselor to get started.
