On August 13, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, by unanimous proclamation, designated September 8, 2024, as “Orlando Cat Café Day” in Lake County, Florida. September 8th marks the 8th anniversary for this unique concept, which to date has adopted over 2,700 cats and kittens to their forever homes.

“We are both thrilled and humbled by this honor,” says Jessica Whitehouse, Co-creator and manager of the Orlando Cat Café, who was on hand to accept the honor. The Orlando Cat Café was the first Cat Café to open in the State of Florida and to date has welcomed over 170,000 visitors from all over the world.

Earlier this year the company announced an innovative franchise program to help ease the plight of shelter animals. “So many cats are needlessly euthanized every year simply because the shelter system is so overwhelmed,” says Founder Sandra Cagan. “Our dream is for our business model, which has been ‘purr-fected’ over the last 8 years, to be duplicated in other communities around the country, with the ultimate goal being to adopt more cats to loving homes.” Information on the franchise program can be found at www.orlandocatcafefranchise.com.

The Orlando Cat Café houses between 15-25 cats and kittens, all of which are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on their vaccinations, and available for adoption through SPCA Florida. The Orlando Cat Café is located at 532 Cagan Park Avenue in the Cagan Crossings Town Center, about 4 miles west of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made at www.orlandocatcafe.com.
