After the FSU vs. Georgia Tech game, LouEllen Combs and Joe Holt set out to explore the rich landscapes of Ireland, starting with the magnificent Rock of Cashel. LouEllen said that though they didn’t walk up to it, its grandeur as it rises from the horizon was breathtaking.
LouEllen went on to describe their Irish experience: “Near the Rock of Cashel, a tribute to Irish dancing captured our attention. The dancers’ joy was so infectious that I couldn’t resist joining in!”
“We continued through the vibrant city of Cork, where we only had time for a brief drive-through, but its energy was palpable even in passing.
No trip to Ireland is complete without a visit to Blarney Castle. Though we didn’t wait the 60 minutes to kiss the famous stone, we immersed ourselves in the beauty of the castle’s gardens. Among the highlights were the Wishing Steps, where legend has it that walking up and down with your eyes closed grants you a wish.
We also stopped at Blarney Woolen Mills, renowned as the largest Irish shop in the world, before heading to the wild coastline at Waterville.
Driving the Ring of Kerry was an unforgettable experience, showcasing Ireland’s unspoiled countryside, rugged mountains, and wild rock gardens, all with glimpses of the Atlantic Ocean. Although the Emerald Isle lived up to its name with plenty of clouds, mist, and rain, the journey was mesmerizing.
Our trip concluded in Killarney, where the abundance of vibrant flowers, thriving in the misty Irish climate, added a final touch of natural beauty to our adventure.
We have seen a lot since leaving Dublin (and the Noles’ loss behind us)!”
Though they didn’t kiss the Blarney Stone, they should return to Florida with a wee bit of Blarney and lots of Irish memories.
