The South Lake High School Eagles extended their winning streak, defeating East Ridge High School 24-3 on the road, pushing their season record to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the district. This victory came after a challenging week in which the Eagles also claimed a 20-8 win against Horizon High School in a makeup game earlier, setting the stage for a district championship showdown against Lake Minneola on October 25.

Facing the adversity of playing two games within five days, the Eagles showed resilience. They took on a rested East Ridge team, which came into the matchup with a 3-3 record and had not played in over two weeks. Despite this, the Eagles dominated the game.

The Eagles struck first, with Malik Holman breaking free for a 54-yard touchdown run. East Ridge responded with a field goal, ending the first quarter with a close score of 7-3. In the second quarter, Chris McKenna extended the Eagles’ lead with a 28-yard field goal. The Eagles’ defense then stepped up, highlighted by a crucial interception by Rome McKinnond, which led to Tre Kelly’s 32-yard touchdown run, giving the Eagles a 17-3 advantage at halftime.

Kelly found the end zone again late in the third quarter, securing the Eagles’ 24-3 victory.

Coach Brad Lord expressed his pride stating , “Our team handled the adversity from Milton and stayed focused on the task at hand. We have a ton to clean up before hosting a very talented and experienced Lake Minneola team for the District Championship. We are hoping the whole community comes out to support our Eagles, who have worked so hard this year.”
