Clermont Garden Club’s Yard of the Month for October takes us to the home of Bill Prince at 1400 14th Street in Clermont (located on the corner of 14th and Seminole Street.)  This busy yard is full of plants, flowers, shrubs and trees. A large oak dominates the front with Staghorn Ferns (Platycerium) suspended from its branches. A perfect specimen of Parakeet flower (Heliconia psittacorum) can be found amongst several varieties of hibiscus and Cape Myrtle also Scarlet Bush (Rubiaceae.) A water feature by the front porch is guarded by a collection of gnomes. One’s eye is drawn to all angles. Butterflies and bees flying in and out. The ram goat dashalong or yellow alder (turnera ulmifolia) grows to the front left of the yard in abundance.
