By Mr. Robert Burke, MVA Upper School History Teacher
On Friday, February 7, two Montverde Academy students were recognized by the Tomoka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Junior Gianna Dvoran received the award for Outstanding U.S. History Student. Gianna was nominated by her Advanced Placement U.S. History teacher, Mr. Chris Spaulding. Mr. Spaulding nominated Dvoran stating, “Gianna exemplifies the qualities of a true scholar, showing a genuine dedication to learning that goes beyond simply earning good grades. Her work reflects significant independent study, and her enthusiasm for class participation makes her a joy to teach. Gianna’s strong work ethic and commitment to excellence make her a deserving recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution recognition.”
Senior Alexa Foxx was recognized as the Chapter Winner of the DAR Good Citizen Award, and she will now advance to the state level of competition. During the awards ceremony, Alexa read her essay “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It,” which was submitted as part of her contest application.

In attendance at the program were the members of the DAR, along with the Mayor of Minneola, Pat Kelley, and the Mayor of Clermont, Tim Murry. After the presentation of awards, both students had the opportunity to meet with both mayors who shared their congratulations and thoughts.
Congratulations to Gianna and Alexa for their hard work and commitment to U.S. History education!
