At the 2025 Ambassadors Award Breakfast on Friday, February 21, Jamie Lowe, the 2025 South Lake Chamber of Commerce Board Chair, presented the $1,000 Ray Goodgame Outstanding Student Leader Award to Hermione Castro of Lake Minneola High School.

This scholarship honors exceptional students in the South Lake area who serve as champions for our community. Hermione Castro is a remarkable young woman whose leadership and achievements set a shining example for her peers.

With an impressive 3.56 GPA, Hermione has earned the prestigious Award of Excellence from the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. Her commitment to academic excellence is complemented by her dedication to service, as evidenced by her two-year tenure as a Student Government Representative. As a leader within the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), she introduced interactive meetings and worship nights that fostered greater involvement, further strengthening the organization’s impact. Her leadership extends beyond school as she continues to serve as a student leader at her home church.

Hermione’s passion for community engagement is also evident in her role as the media chair and secretary for the Spanish Club, where she showcased her creativity by designing the club’s new shirt. She has been an active member of the Varsity Club for four years, organizing spirited student sections for sports events and pep rallies to boost school spirit.

In addition to her leadership roles, Hermione is an accomplished athlete. She serves as the lead athletic trainer, competes as a weightlifter, and excels in track and field. Her dedication to both academics and athletics demonstrates her exceptional ability to balance multiple commitments while excelling in each.

Hermione aspires to become a neonatologist, planning to spend seven years working in a hospital setting before realizing her dream of opening her own practice. Her drive, leadership, and commitment to making a difference in the medical field are truly inspiring.

Congratulations to Hermione Castro, this month’s deserving recipient of the $1,000 Ray Goodgame Outstanding Student Leader Scholarship!
