The Clermont Police Department (CPD) held its monthly Coffee with a Cop community relations event on Wednesday, March 19th. The Clermont Woman’s Club, 655 West Broome Street, Clermont hosted the event as an open house to all.
Guests were treated with delicious treats provided by members of the club while Clermont police officers were on hand to answer questions or discuss community affairs with the public. The historical building, which is home to the Woman’s Club organization that was chartered in 1927, has become a favorite annual location for the Coffee with a Cop program. The building, built in 1921 as a motor camp building, retains much of its original interior woodcraft design and floor plan that rings in a welcoming atmosphere to those who enter the cozy clubhouse.
Discussion topics included the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, which will take place on March 28th. Law Enforcement officers from over 300 Florida agencies, including the Clermont police department, participate in the state-wide torch run to benefit Special Olympics Florida athletes. Contact Ken Roop, Torch Run Director, at 813-508-6905 or Kenroops@sofl.org for more information.

The Woman’s Club Public Relations Chairperson, Pam Schmitz, outlined a plan for May to show appreciation to area first responders and public works employees. Two groups of club members will personally deliver healthy snacks to area police, fire, and public works departments on May 8th. “The members donate and accept donations to put the healthy snack baskets together before delivering them to each of the departments in Clermont, Minneola, Groveland, Mascotte, and the South District of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. We do this every year as a mention of our appreciation to all these men and women who take care of all of us,” says Pam.
The Woman’s Club of Clermont is a non-profit service organization and by fundraising throughout the year, it can support international, national, and local charities. The club meets on the first Tuesday of each month (September through May), 12:30 pm at the clubhouse, 655 W. Broome Street, Clermont.
