Team 8057 – All Wired Up
The team members and mentors from Groveland’s own All Wired Up FIRST Robotics team participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Orlando Regional at the Addition Finance Arena at UCF from March 20 to 22. The three-day event included four practice rounds and 10 qualification matches over three awesome days from Thursday through Saturday. The competition featured 52 FRC teams from all over the world: the United States, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Azerbaijan, and Panama.
Our team had to overcome some early programming and drive base challenges, and some, such as an end game balance challenge, persisted. But the entire team built on their experience and finished strong, being on the winning alliance for 2 of our late qualification matches. The matches were live-streamed on Twitch so that family, friends, and supporters who couldn’t attend in person could watch live or see replays. A link to a YouTube playlist of all 10 of our matches is below. By the end of the qualification matches we finished ranked in 37th place.
Everyone enjoyed a great time, made new friends, had good times with old friends and everyone took away some lesson to put into use throughout the year.
The team meets weekly during the school year at Edge Memorial United Methodist Church in donated dedicated clubhouse rooms. Our other main sponsors include our Crown Partner Kalos Services Inc., the City of Groveland, SECO Energy Foundation, Walt Disney parks & Resorts and SIM Central Florida. Mom’s Guide To Robotics is our sponsoring 501(c)3 and helps provide promotional items like team shirts, lunches and internet presence. Link Printing and other local businesses provide discounted items.
The team operates under Mom’s Guide to Robotics as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies solely on donations and sponsorships. The team is dedicated to bringing access to robotics programs to all South Lake County students. We are open to any student in grades 8-12 regardless of what type of school they attend in South Lake County, including homeschooled students.
All Wired Up is currently accepting all students and adult mentors willing to share their expertise with our students. We are also looking for local businesses willing to help our students through partnering sponsorships.
