Hello Clermont Champions! April/May 2025
It has been a busy month with lots of programs, activities, and events. I, along with Interim City Manager Rick Van Wagner and Council Members Petersen and Myers, attended Legislative Days in Tallahassee at the end of March. We met directly with our representatives and shared our concerns on current issues as well as how proposed legislation could impact us locally.
We had a great turnout for Earth Day on April 19 at Lake Hiawatha Preserve. More than 200 people took part in the activities that started at 7:30 a.m., collecting more than 300 pounds of garbage in and around Lake Minneola. Tasty hamburgers and hot dogs, grilled up and served hot by Public Service Department staff, fueled all that work.
I believe it is important to participate in Memorial Day events, as this is the day set aside to honor and remember those who lost their lives fighting for our rights. For the second year, we are privileged to host the Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall, a replica of the full monument in Washington, D.C. Members of the Patriot Guard Riders will escort the memorial from Home Depot to Waterfront Park at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24. A remembrance program featuring special speakers, music, and activities will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 26.
While it does not seem possible, the last day of this school year is May 29. Congratulations to all of our graduates, and best of luck in the next step of your journey.
It is never too early for safety reminders, and with the end of the school year, let’s remember to slow down, stay attentive, and watch for pedestrians and kids on bicycles.
Speaking of summer, the Splash Park has free admission and is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through May 26 when it opens everyday through August 10. Be sure to mark your calendars for the annual Caribbean Jerk Festival, June 7 and Juneteenth on June 21, both at Waterfront Park.
As a reminder, our Council, Code Enforcement, and Planning & Zoning meetings are live-streamed and archived using YouTube. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/@CityofClermont. We hope this will make City meetings more accessible to our community.
If you have questions or concerns about Clermont, I encourage you to let me know as I depend on you to share community issues and concerns. You can stop by City Hall (Monday or Wednesday mornings) or drop by my monthly lunch (first Tuesday at different restaurants) and let me hear from you.
I remain honored and grateful to serve as your Mayor, and I sincerely appreciate your continued support. As always, you can reach me at tmurry@ClermontFl.org.
Until next time,
Mayor Tim Murry
