Clermont will continue its longstanding tradition of honoring the victims of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks with a Memorial Ceremony on Thursday, September 11, at
10 am at the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center, 3700 South Highway 27. “Nearly a quarter-century has passed, and there are many who know September 11 only through stories,” Graczyk said. “It is our solemn duty to ensure they grasp the weight of that day, and the sacrifices made to safeguard our freedom.”
Guest speaker Sgt. Gopaul of the Clermont Police Department, a former New York Police Department sergeant during the attacks, will share his experiences from that day and its aftermath, reflecting on the resilience of first responders and the legacy of service and sacrifice. “This ceremony is a sacred reminder that we must never forget the first responders who gave their lives that day,” Ezell said. “Their legacy calls us to honor them and to teach future generations the meaning of sacrifice and service.”
The program will feature Clermont’s Public Safety Honor Guard, the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets and the City of Mount Dora Pipes and Drums Team. Memorial traditions will include a ceremonial fire bell, a gun salute and the playing of taps.
Mission BBQ of Clermont will sponsor a community reception following the ceremony.
