The South Lake High School Eagles held a commanding lead on Thursday, September 11, defeating Davenport High School 61-0 in their first district game of the season. With the win, the Eagles improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in district play.
South Lake wasted no time setting the tone, exploding for 41 points in the first quarter alone. Quarterback Tre Kelly connected with senior receivers Keydrick Powell and Isaiah Pina for touchdown passes, while also joining Malik Holma, Tyrese Thompson, and Zaide Nance in adding rushing scores.
The defense was equally dominant. Early in the game, Chase Coello intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. On Davenport’s next drive, Terrence Cummings blocked a punt and took it in for another score, giving South Lake an early commanding lead. Coello struck again with a second interception, this time setting up the offense deep in Bronco territory.
The Eagles’ secondary—Ahvioume Scott, Rome McKinnond, Corey Scott, Tyger Darden, Latoriam Akins, and Joseph Robinson—completely shut down Davenport’s passing game. Meanwhile, Jesse Barker, Brandon Dipaolo, Quoy Nelson, Murphy Connelly, Ramond Carter, and Isaiah Desir consistently pressured the backfield. Linebacker Tyson Williams also turned in another standout performance, recording double-digit tackles.
Head Coach Brad Lord praised his team’s effort while noting areas for improvement, “We were much more disciplined this past week in practice and during the game. We still had too many penalty yards. It was nice to see some of our players return from injury and play well. We have to have a strong week of practice to get ready for a very well-coached and talented Mt. Dora team.”
The Eagles will travel to face Mt. Dora High School on Friday, September 19, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 pm.
