By Nichole Smith, Montverde Academy
Students in Mrs. Kristy Tubss’ art classes at Montverde Academy are creating their own family albums! Every year, Mrs. Tubbs kicks off the school year giving each student an opportunity to contribute to a family album.
Each artist is tasked with taking a page torn from a hardback book and using it as the first layer of a mixed-media collage. When creating their collages, students select drawing prompts to create an interesting and captivating composition while using everything from colored pencils to markers, watercolors, and ink pens for their designs.
All collages are then returned to the book to stay in the studio, creating a sense of community among this year’s cohort and allowing each artist to connect with and inspire art students in future classes for years to come.
