This Veterans Day, the quiet grounds of Oak Hill Cemetery in Clermont came alive with color and meaning when hundreds of American flags were placed beside the resting places of those who served the nation and the community — a stirring tribute organized by Chuck Seaver, president of the Kiwanis Club of Clermont.
Each year, the club honors veterans, both past and present, by placing a U.S. flag on every known veteran’s grave at Oak Hill. In 2018, the Kiwanis expanded this act of remembrance to include first responders, recognizing their courage and lifelong commitment to protecting others.
Today, 553 sites are marked with flags — each one representing a story of service, sacrifice, and love of country.
Helping to carry on this meaningful tradition were Kiwanis members, along with dedicated Key Club students from South Lake High School, East Ridge High School, and Real Life Christian Academy, joined by community volunteers.
The flags will remain in place through November 15, inviting the public to stroll through Oak Hill’s peaceful paths and reflect on the lives behind each waving flag.

“It’s a powerful sight,” said Chuck Seaver, President of the Kiwanis Club of Clermont. “Each flag reminds us of the courage, dedication, and service that helped shape our community and our nation. If anyone knows of a veteran or first responder who may have been inadvertently left off the list, please reach out to me — we want to make sure every hero is remembered.”
This simple yet profound act of placing flags transforms Oak Hill into a symbol of unity and gratitude — a living reminder that service and sacrifice are never forgotten in Clermont.
