The South Lake community is grieving an unimaginable loss after two local teenagers were killed in a tragic crash in Lake County on Saturday evening.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 6 p.m. near State Road 33 and Groveland Farms Road. Troopers reported that a 2008 Toyota, occupied by seventeen-year-old Jose Ivan of Clermont and sixteen-year-old Jade were killed Saturday evening when their Toyota Scion collided with an SUV on State Road 33 west of Groveland, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. As a Lincoln Aviator approached from the opposite direction, the driver swerved in an effort to return to the proper lane. The Toyota lost control, striking the front of the Lincoln and overturning.

Both teenagers were pronounced deceased at the scene.

News of the crash has sent waves of heartbreak throughout the community. Neighbors, classmates, and friends are mourning two young lives filled with promise—lives whose stories were still being written. Their dreams, hopes, and futures, once so bright, now live on only in the memories of those who loved them most.

“Our hearts are with the two families as they face this heartbreaking time,” organizers shared in a statement. “We also hold close the family involved in the other vehicle. We hope they feel the love, strength, and support surrounding them from all of us.”

To bring the community together in support, healing, and remembrance, a Community Candlelight Vigil will be held on Monday, November 17, at Lake Catherine Farms in Groveland at 5849 Lake Catherine Road, Groveland. The gathering will open at 5:00 pm, with a  program beginning at 5:30 pm.

All are welcome to join in honoring the lives lost and in showing support for the families and friends who now carry the weight of this sorrow. Community members are encouraged to share the event information so others may attend and stand together in unity, love, and remembrance.
