The South Lake High School Eagles closed out a remarkable football season Friday night in Seffner, Florida, falling 42–0 to top-ranked Armwood in the regional playoff matchup. The Hawks dominated offensively while holding South Lake’s offense scoreless, including scoring on both a punt return and a blocked punt.
A defensive highlight for South Lake came from junior defensive back Rome McKinnon, who recorded two interceptions, demonstrating grit and determination despite the challenging matchup.
Head Coach Bradley “Brad” Lord reflected on the season and the night’s performance, stating, “Armwood beat us in every facet of the game. I know our players are very disappointed on the outcome and final score as they have worked hard all season long. We have to understand the process and learn from the Armwood game.”
Coach Lord emphasized the program’s progress, noting the dramatic transformation over the last three seasons. “In three seasons these players have gone from an 0–10 season, to an 11–2 record while winning back-to-back district championships, two playoff games, and making the school’s first appearance in a regional championship.”
He expressed deep pride in the team’s growth and effort, concluding, “I am extremely proud of what these players have done on campus and on the football field. Our seniors will have some life-lasting memories of a fantastic season, and our younger players will learn from this game — bettering us for the future.”
Despite the postseason exit, South Lake High School closes the year with a legacy-defining season, a strengthened foundation, and aspirations aimed firmly toward future success.
