The LiveWell Foundation of South Lake is launching a new philanthropic initiative designed to more directly address the most pressing health and wellness needs in South Lake County.

The Foundation will introduce Critical Issue Targeted Grant Cycles, a strategic shift in its grantmaking approach that aligns funding with priorities identified in the Community Health Needs Assessment 2025. Through this new model, local nonprofit organizations will be invited to apply for funding within four priority issue areas, focusing on initiatives that deliver measurable, community-driven impact.

Foundation leaders say the targeted grant cycles are intended to ensure that philanthropic dollars are invested where they can make the greatest difference—guided by local data and community input.

“This approach allows us to be more intentional and responsive to the needs of South Lake County residents,” said Heather Wittman, office coordinator for the LiveWell Foundation of South Lake. “We believe this initiative will be of strong interest to local nonprofits, community leaders, and residents who are invested in the long-term health and well-being of our community.”

In addition to addressing critical issues, the new grant structure is designed to strengthen nonprofit capacity and encourage sustainable solutions that improve health and wellness outcomes across the region.

The LiveWell Foundation of South Lake County was established to enhance quality of life through improved health and wellness. Its grantmaking efforts aim to inspire and support initiatives that create lasting, positive change for South Lake residents.

The Foundation was formed through an agreement between Orlando Health and the South Lake Memorial Hospital organization. As part of that agreement, South Lake Memorial Hospital relinquished its board seats at South Lake Hospital, and Orlando Health contributed $128 million to establish the new foundation. This transition occurred when South Lake Hospital became a controlled subsidiary of Orlando Health.

Following the dissolution of the South Lake County Hospital District in October 2019, the creation of the Foundation ensured an ongoing funding source dedicated to addressing healthcare and wellness needs locally. All funds generated by the Foundation remain in South Lake County, reinforcing its commitment to the community it serves.
