The Clermont Garden Club kicks off the New Year by awarding the yard of Nyuget Green at 15936 Sausalito Circle, in the Greater Hills neighborhood of Clermont as Yard of the Month for January 2026.
There is a striking dragon fruit plant (Selenicereus undatas) growing up a 10 foot tall tree trunk at the front of the house. The large brick patio on both sides of the front door are filled with big, gorgeous pots planted with bougainvillea, celosia (with the most vibrant ruby red color), various crown of thorns, and desert roses. A striking feature of the right side of the house adjacent to the street is a row of 9 foot tall Brazilian red-cloaks (Megaskepasma erythrochlamys) with magnificent burgundy blooms. To the left of the garage is a row of plumerias (Frangipani) which leads onto a long path into the backyard. To the right of that path, you are greeted by a row of succulents and multitude of exotic blooming orchids. On the left are potted pandan plants (Pandanusamaryllifolius, used in cooking) and multiple trays of potted mint (Mentha) and edible greens which Nyuget serves to veterans at the Vietnamese temple in Apopka. The path ends in a backyard with various fruiting plants: sugar apple (annona squamosa), grapefruit, mangoes, dragonfruit and more!
Nyuget is quite a busy lady. She grows and propagates plants for the plant sale in her Greater Hills Neighborhood held every year in April and October. Nyuget donates the proceeds to typhoon victims in Vietnam and to the Vietnamese temple where she also volunteers twice a week.
