The Kiwanis Club of Clermont was honored to welcome Clermont Police Captain Shane Strickland as the guest speaker at a recent Kiwanis business meeting.

Captain Strickland is a lifelong Clermont resident, having been born at South Lake Hospital, now the property of Living Hope Church on Seventh Street. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and later pursued a career in law enforcement, ultimately returning home to serve the Clermont community.

During his remarks, Captain Strickland reflected on how much the city had grown since his return, noting that the expansion and development of Clermont were greater than he had anticipated.

He also provided an update on “what’s happening at the CPD,” highlighting several technology and reporting improvements currently underway. These include upgrades to the department’s Records Management System (RMS) and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), as well as enhancements to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system.

In addition, Captain Strickland shared staffing updates, announcing that the department recently promoted five officers from within and is currently working to fill six open positions.

Captain Strickland concluded by emphasizing the importance of community involvement, stressing that strong relationships between the Clermont Police Department and local residents play a vital role in maintaining public safety and trust.

The Kiwanis Club thanked Captain Strickland for his service and for taking the time to share insight into the department’s ongoing efforts and commitment to the Clermont community.

The Kiwanis Club of Clermont meets on the first, second, and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 11:30 am., and on the third Monday at 6 pm., at Green Valley Country Club, located at 14601 Green Valley Blvd., Clermont.
