The Ann Dupee Gem of the Hills Award was proudly presented to Chamber Ambassador Kathleen Holt of Mary Kay.
A true Central Florida original, Kathleen often laughs that she could water ski before she could walk and learned to scuba dive before she could drive. Growing up as the only girl among five brothers helped her develop resilience, confidence, and just the right amount of competitive spirit — traits that would serve her well throughout her life.
While earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Nova Southeastern University, Kathleen worked full-time at Walt Disney World, launching what would become an incredible 45-year career. And what a career it was! She served as a VIP Tour Guide, made history as the first female skipper on the Jungle Cruise, joined the opening crew of Disneyland Paris, and later stepped into leadership roles as Integration Manager and Safety and Training Manager for Distribution Services. While her Disney résumé sparkles, it’s her heart for service that truly defines her legacy.
More than 25 years ago, Kathleen founded a ministry dedicated to making and distributing rosaries around the world. To date, more than 100,000 rosaries have been lovingly created and shared — a remarkable testament to faith in action. The same group oversees the Angel Tree at Blessed Sacrament, bringing Christmas joy to families and individuals throughout Lake County each year.
Her faith journey continued to deepen five years ago when she began the path to become a Lay Carmelite, strengthening her spiritual commitment and lifelong dedication to serving others.
And when it comes to Christmas spirit, Kathleen doesn’t just deck the halls — she transforms them. For the past four years, she has personally brought Christmas magic to the residents of Colonial Lakes Nursing Home in Oakland. She has provided new gift sacks for every resident, replaced worn games, supplied lunch, and filled the halls with joyful carols. This past year, thanks to generous donors, she expanded the celebration even further by providing a new 55-inch television, repairing the outdoor screened room, replacing a broken popcorn machine with a full movie-style experience, and even arranging a special visit from Mrs. Claus herself.
Behind the scenes, Kathleen is often the first to step forward when Chamber staff need a helping hand. She doesn’t seek recognition. She doesn’t look for applause. She simply sees a need — and answers it.
Her life radiates generosity, faith, leadership, and an unwavering love for her community. Kathleen Holt truly embodies the spirit of the Ann Dupee Gem of the Hills Award: serving quietly, giving wholeheartedly, and leaving a little extra sparkle everywhere she goes.
