Ava Brown, Lake County

As residents prepare to celebrate America’s 250th Independence Day, Lake County Fire Rescue is reminding the community to put safety first when using fireworks and participating in holiday festivities.

Fireworks are a popular part of Fourth of July celebrations, but they can quickly lead to serious injuries, fires, and property damage when not handled properly. Residents should take precautions and make responsible decisions throughout the holiday weekend.

  • Never allow children to handle or ignite fireworks.
  • Keep water readily available whenever fireworks are being used.
  • Follow all manufacturer instructions and warning labels.
  • Never attempt to relight malfunctioning fireworks.
  • Use fireworks away from homes, vehicles, dry vegetation, and other combustible materials.
  • Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
  • Properly dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before placing them in the trash.
  • Attend professionally conducted fireworks displays

Lake County Fire Rescue reminds everyone that a few moments of caution can help prevent injuries, fires, and property damage. For more information on firework safety, please visit https://www.nfpa.org/education-and-research/home-fire-safety/fireworks
