Montverde Academy has been recognized for student success in Advanced Placement program while broadening access.

College Board announced that Montverde Academy has been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning Platinum distinction.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

Montverde Academy had 78 percent of seniors who took at least one AP Exam during high school, 72 percent of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 37 percent of seniors who took five or more AP Exams! Collectively, Montverde Academy offers 32 AP courses across 73 sections. 23 teachers are specially qualified to teach these courses.

“AP allows students to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”

“Montverde Academy is dedicated to providing its students with a high-caliber education that effectively prepares them for life beyond high school,” said Mr. David Bernatavitz, Associate Head of School and Dean of the Upper School at Montverde Academy. This commitment is exemplified through the school’s extensive Advanced Placement (AP) program.

MVA annually offers over 30 AP courses, catering to the diverse needs of its student body. These college-level courses challenge students and equip them with the skills necessary for success in higher education. The school’s faculty is highly qualified, with teachers participating in professional development opportunities such as AP Summer Institutes to hone their expertise in their respective subject areas.

The school’s dedication to academic excellence is further demonstrated by its recognition through the prestigious AP School Honor Roll program. Attaining platinum status, the highest level of achievement, is a remarkable accomplishment, with only 6% of eligible schools reaching this level last year. This distinction is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both the students and the faculty at Montverde Academy.

MVA’s AP program is just one example of the school’s unwavering commitment to providing its students with a transformative educational experience that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
