The Clermont Fire Department, led by Fire Chief David Ezell and supported by Emergency Management personnel, has been working tirelessly to manage rising water levels around the boat ramp and affected neighborhoods in Emerald Lakes.
The barrier currently set up near the boat ramp has been controlling water levels, despite minor leaks. With the operation of pumps and sandbags, water has been mostly held back, significantly reducing intrusion into vulnerable areas.
A massive 500-foot-long, 5-foot-tall “Tiger Dam” has also been procured and installed over the boat ramp to further secure the area from additional water.
With the installation of the Tiger Dam, residents are advised that there will be an increased presence of emergency personnel and workers on-site. This crucial step in flood mitigation is expected to strengthen current defenses significantly, protecting the community from further damage.
Support for Island Residents
Emergency teams also visited the nearby island to evaluate the needs of residents there. Preparations are underway to offer assistance as soon as water levels near the seawall, allowing island residents to return safely to their homes.
Apply for FEMA Assistance
Residents are encouraged to apply for FEMA disaster assistance if they haven’t already. This aid is essential for all households, as it can cover unforeseen repairs and potential structural damage that might not be immediately visible. For anyone needing help with the application process, a Disaster Recovery Center is available in Leesburg with on-site support. If there is substantial demand, arrangements can be made to coordinate transportation to this center.
Addressing Misconceptions: FEMA and City Support is Here to Help

Emergency Management has assured the community that their sole aim is to provide relief and resources to help residents recover and return to normalcy. These agencies are committed to protecting, not replacing, local communities and will provide any additional resources necessary.
