South Lake High School opened its season with a strong 27-6 victory over Nature Coast, led by quarterback Tre Kelly’s three touchdown passes to wide receiver Keydrick Powell.

The Eagles’ defense turned in another dominant performance, aside from a brief breakdown just before halftime. Tyson Williams anchored the defense with 11 tackles and an interception. Jesse Barker applied relentless pressure on the Sharks’ quarterback, finishing with four sacks. Jayson Vasquez, Jamar Baptiste, and Ramond Carter also disrupted the backfield throughout the night. Joseph Robinson contributed two interceptions, while Julian White, Ahvioume Scott, and LJ Akins delivered solid efforts in the secondary.

On offense, Kelly connected with Powell for scoring plays of 20, 15, and 45 yards. Running back Malik Holman added balance to the attack with 92 rushing yards, while kicker Chris McKenna nailed field goals from 27 and 42 yards.

“We have a lot to clean up before our home opener vs. Tavares,” Coach Lord said. “We are not even close to where we should be.”
