Season Record- 2-1

by Coach Brad Lord, South Lake High School

Game Summary:  The Villages Charter came into South Lake with a high-flying offense averaging over 30 points a game. They would put it to the Eagle Defense in the first half running and passing all over the Eagle defense. The Buffalos would strike for 34 points in the first half and go into the break with a big 34-10 lead. The Eagle offense and defense started to get it going in the third quarter. Malik Holman, Tre Kelly, Izaiah Pina, Keydrick Powell, Cody Mason all had some big plays helping the Eagles fight their way back into the game. The Offensive line started to work together and the defense led by Tyson Williams, Jesse Barker, Chase Coello, and Murphy Connelly started to make some plays holding the Buffalo offense to 3 points in the second half. The Eagles would cut the lead going into the fourth quarter to 34-26. In the fourth quarter the Eagles would have numerous opportunities to tie the score or go ahead but fell short because of  mental mistakes,  a lack of execution, and most importantly a  lack of discipline that would be the end of any great comeback story.

“We got punched in the mouth early and did not have the maturity or discipline to finish what would have been a historic comeback. Costly penalties from undisciplined play kept us from turning the table vs the Villages Charter. The Villages Charter is a well-coached team that had the discipline to go on the road and beat us in pretty much every aspect of the game. We will work hard on being more disciplined on Monday and our players and coaching staff will learn from this. We will need to be more disiplined for our first district game next Thursday vs Davenport.”
