Times are changing—literally! This Sunday, November 2, marks the end of Daylight Saving Time. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before bedtime on Saturday night and enjoy that extra hour of sleep along with an earlier sunrise on Sunday morning.

But as we “fall back” into Eastern Standard Time, there’s another change to keep in mind: Lake County’s lawn watering schedule shifts too!

To help conserve one of Florida’s most precious resources, Lake County follows irrigation schedules.

During Eastern Standard Time, Water (Fall–Winter):

    • Odd-numbered addresses: Saturday only
    • Even-numbered addresses: Sunday only
    • Non-residential properties: Friday only

Watering must be done before 10 am or after 4 pm to reduce evaporation and keep your lawn healthy.

Best Practices for a Greener, Smarter Lawn

    • Best Time: Water between 4 am and 10 am so your grass can absorb moisture before the day heats up.
    • Avoid: Watering between 10 am and 4 pm, when the sun is strongest and evaporation is highest. Also skip late-night watering—it can cause fungal issues.
    • How Much: Your lawn only needs about one inch of water per week. A quick test? Place an empty tuna can in your yard; when it’s full, you’ve hit your target!
    • Be Efficient: Only water when your grass truly needs it. Watch for wilted or dry spots, and check that sprinklers aren’t watering your driveway or sidewalk.

As you enjoy that extra hour of sleep this weekend, take a moment to reset your clocks—and your sprinklers! A small change now helps keep our lawns lush, our water bills low, and our environment thriving.
