Bill Delaney, founder of Buena Vista Publishing and widely recognized for his gift of blarney, leads a group of distinguished South Lake County gentlemen on a monthly gathering devoted to toasting life and celebrating the fine art of conversation.

March—what Delaney happily refers to as “St. Patrick’s Month”—is his favorite time of year. It’s a month, he says, best celebrated with a pint of Guinness, a collection of Irish jokes, and plenty of lively Irish music. Delaney proudly proclaims himself to be “99 percent Irish and a wee bit Spanish—at least that’s what Ancestry says.”

Believing that diversity is the spice of life, the group took their March gathering on the road to Guru Indian Restaurant, where they raised a toast to Master Chef Uday Kadam. The accomplished author and restaurant owner was presented with the lighthearted but heartfelt title of “Honorary Irishman.”

Fittingly, Guru Indian Restaurant is located just steps away from Grace O’Malley’s Irish Pub—once the only Irish pub in South Lake County before its recent closing. While the pub may no longer be pouring pints, the spirit of Irish camaraderie was alive and well as the group gathered nearby to celebrate the occasion.

The honor recognized Kadam’s determination, warm hospitality, and the spicy, flavorful cuisine that has earned his restaurant a loyal following.

Kadam’s story makes the recognition especially fitting. Rising from humble beginnings, he built a successful culinary career and successful restaurant while sharing his inspiring journey in his book The Lone Lion.

Wearing his new “Honorary Irish” shirt proudly, Kadam accepted the distinction with a smile—proving that during St. Patrick’s Month, even a master of Indian cuisine can enjoy a touch of Irish charm.

As the Irish might say, “May your troubles be less, your blessings be more—and may a good story, good friends, and good food always be waiting at the door.”
