The Clermont Historical Society will host local historian and author Doris Bloodsworth on July 4 in two programs celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The first program, beginning promptly at 1:30 pm, entitled “Florida – the 14th Colony,” will share what was happening in the Sunshine State in 1776 and the state’s role during the Revolutionary War. Learn about George Washington’s attempted invasions of Florida, Paul Revere’s engravings that captured the state’s culture and how Florida played a part in the Declaration of Independence and the last naval battle of the Revolutionary War. Discover what was happening in our own south Lake County as the country battled for independence.
The second program, beginning promptly at 2:30 pm, will feature novel, fascinating facts about the Declaration of Independence and its signers. Attendees will receive free copies of this famous document.
