The Jamaican American Association of Central Florida (JAAOCF) celebrated Jamaica’s 64th Anniversary of Independence with its Annual Jamaica Independence & Scholarship Awards Gala at the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center. The event brought together Jamaicans, Caribbean neighbors, friends of Jamaica, community leaders, and supporters for an evening celebrating Jamaica’s heritage, achievements, and future.

Guests experienced a vibrant Jamaican-themed Carnation market displayed by the Caribbean Supercenter and mini museum by Alpha Point featuring cultural displays and historical artifacts. The celebration spearheaded by Entertainment & Fundraising Chair, Pastor Rosemarie Roth and committee, featured steelpannist Ms. Chekiyah, music by RW Entertainment, and a special performance by gospel artist Ms. Adrianna Clark, daughter of the late Bunny Rugs of the Third World. Authentic Jamaican cuisine was provided by Caribbean Sunshine Bakery, recognized in the 2025 Best of Jamaica Awards as Best Restaurant in Orlando and Best Patty Shop.

Honorable R. Oliver Mair, Consul General of Jamaica, delivered an inspiring message on Jamaica’s resilience and recovery following Hurricane Melissa. He was also honored by JAAOCF for his outstanding leadership and service to the Jamaican diaspora. Keynote speaker Mr. David Mullings, Founder and Chairman of Blue Mahoe Holdings, shared a forward-looking message focused on innovation, investment, sustainable development, and strengthening ties between Jamaica and its global diaspora. The mistress of ceremonies, Mrs. Sophia Nicholson, entertained, and guided the program with warmth and professionalism. A major highlight of the gala was the presentation of 18 scholarships to students in the United States and Jamaica, reinforcing JAAOCF’s longstanding commitment to education and youth empowerment.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of 18 scholarships to deserving students, continuing JAAOCF’s more than 40-year commitment to education and youth empowerment, with over $100,000 awarded to date. The gala also celebrated JAAOCF’s 41 years of community service. Bridgette Bennett, Esq. received the Community Service Award, while Ms. Grace Powell received the JAAOCF Legacy Award in recognition of her 30 years of dedicated service to youth, education, and the Jamaican American community.

The 2026 gala celebrated freedom, culture, achievement, and hope while honoring Jamaica’s past and inspiring future generations.
