Lexie Farmer, Lake County Animal Shelter
Today, the Lake County Animal Shelter received 85 dogs today from a high-volume pet owner. This brings the total number of animals currently under the shelter’s umbrella of care to 423.
The dogs are receiving medical evaluations and care from shelter staff. Because so many animals have entered the shelter’s care at once, the shelter is actively seeking assistance from rescue organizations to provide placement for the dogs. In particular, the shelter is seeking organizations that can accept 10 or more small dogs from this case, or any other dogs in need.
“This is the largest canine intake in the history of our shelter, and our team is making sure each of these dogs receives the medical attention, care, and compassion they need,” said Whitney Boylston, Lake County Animal Shelter director. “Support from our rescue partners and community is especially important right now. Every placement, adoption, and donation will help us provide the best possible care for these pets.”
Rescue organizations able to assist with placement are encouraged to contact the Lake County Animal Shelter at animalrescue@lakecountyfl.gov.
The community can help by adopting animals that are currently available at the shelter. This can free space and resources for the animals entering the shelter’s care. Residents who are unable to adopt can support the shelter by donating needed supplies or making monetary contributions. The 85 dogs are not currently available for adoption, as they must undergo medical evaluations and receive necessary care. The Lake County Animal Shelter is located at 12280 County Road 448 in Tavares. To view adoptable pets or learn more about supporting the shelter, visit LakeCountyFL.gov/Animal-Shelter.
