Meet Bernice “Bee” Falk Haydu. Until her death at 100 in 2020, she was ready for adventure.  Bee was born in Montclair, New Jersey and in 1944 at the age of 24 she enlisted and became one of the members of the Women American Service Pilots.  It was these brave ladies’ job to “make sure the planes were safe for the boys to fly.”  And that was just the beginning of her story.  Bee’s life after the war continued to include her love of flying but that was not all.  She worked tirelessly to get proper recognition for her fellow members of WASP including getting Congress to officially recognize them as veterans and being photographed in the Oval Office with a sitting president.  And that’s not all!

If you want to learn more about this amazing woman, come to the Clermont Historic Village on Monday, November 9 at 6:00 pm for the Historical Society meeting followed by a presentation by Miss Bee’s only daughter, Diana at 7:00 pm.

Clermont’s Historic Village is located at 490 West Avenue, not far from Downtown Clermont, on the shores of beautiful Lake Minneola.  The Village is open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm  Admission is free, however, a donation of $5.00 per person over 12 is requested.
