Starting in September, the Clermont Tennis Academy will provide lessons for residents of all ages and levels in two convenient locations in Clermont. Certified Tennis Professional Damon Ponzie will head up the program at Palatlakaha Park and Lake Felter Park, strategically located in the northwestern and southeastern areas of the city, accordingly.
“We are excited to bring high-quality tennis instruction into the City of Clermont following multiple requests from residents and the city’s desire to offer a robust variety of recreational services,” said Scott Davidoff, the city’s Parks and Recreation director.
A Clermont Tennis Academy Opening Event will be held at 11:30 am September 15 at Lake Felter Park. Everyone is invited to learn more about the program at this free event.
The academy aims to provide residents with a fun, relaxed environment to hone their skills, get involved in tournaments and have access to world-class tennis instruction.
“The Clermont Tennis Academy partnership with the City of Clermont is an amazing and unique opportunity for children and tennis athletes to get hands-on experience and learn from the best instructors in the greater Central Florida community,” said Ponzie, who responded to the city’s request for proposals. “I believe it will truly be a gratifying and rewarding experience.”
Starting September 9, the academy will offer a year-round Junior Tennis Academy with opportunities to advance with each session based on age and skill level. Also starting September 9 is adult private instruction, as well as group beginners courses for adults.
For the second phase of the program, Ponzie plans to add women’s tennis leagues by 2020.
Ponzie is CEO and president of the award-winning Keene’s Pointe Tennis program in Windermere. He is certified by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and earned Training Master status from the PTR.
