A Note from the City of Clermont and its Police Department Regarding Recent Protests:
The City of Clermont and the Clermont Police Department would like to express their deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of George Floyd.
Due to recent events, the city and its police department would like to reinforce to the community that it does not condone the actions or inactions taken by the Minneapolis Police officers.
The city would like to remind the public that it supports the right to peaceful demonstration.
In the likelihood of a protest or demonstration, Clermont Police will be on scene to protect the right to peacefully protest, as well as to protect life and property.
“Clermont Champions stand for justice, inclusivity and equality,” Clermont Mayor Gail Ash said. “We urge those who are peacefully protesting to protect themselves and others from COVID-19, which continues to be a public health threat; wear a cloth face covering, practice social distancing and follow other guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
A member of the Clermont community has organized a peaceful protest to take place from 3 p.m. to about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. This protest will begin at Waterfront Park and end at City Hall. Feel free to attend this peaceful demonstration as we all come together to work towards viable solutions.
Please note that the Lake County Board of Commissioners imposed a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily, which went into effect May 31 until further notice. This curfew is designed to protect the citizens of Lake County, its businesses and its first responders.
