Clermont Ridge Senior Villas, located at 1100 Hunt Trace Blvd., recently celebrated its grand opening. The new affordable housing community is available to individuals 62 years and older.
The senior housing community contains 11 one-story villa-style buildings, consisting of 70 one-bedroom units of 600 square feet overlooking Jacks Lake. Amenities include a clubhouse, pool, activity room, library, and parking.
Steve Smith, President of Provident Housing Solutions (PHS) spoke proudly of the new affordable community for seniors. PHS, a nonprofit 501c3 Corporation, was created to secure and develop affordable housing to meet the growing demand for housing whether for working families, seniors, disabled, homeless and disabled individuals.
“We are committed to creating affordable housing as we believe that housing is a basic and fundamental need in order for individuals and families to structurally improve their lives”, said Smith.
Smith has received recognition for his outstanding work from the Florida Housing Coalition, including being awarded his co-developer $19 million from Florida Housing Finance Corporation to create Woodwinds apartments, 151 S. Grand Hwy in Clermont; a 96 unit affordable housing community.
He has received awards from the South Lake Chamber of Commerce, Walt Disney World, and numerous other corporate foundations. In 2018, Steve was given a Tribute recognition by Florida Housing Representative Larry Metz for his outstanding work.

For many years, elected officials had diverted more than $2 billion earmarked for non-housing purposes. However, because of the statewide grassroots campaign in each community, the State’s elected officials have fully funded the much-needed Sadowski Housing Trust Fund.
Smith notes that there are over 500 seniors living on social security in Clermont, and approximately 37% of the workers in Clermont pay over 30% of their income for housing. The cost of new homes in south Lake County is over $200,000 and a typical 2 bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 per month. Florida Lacks 921,939 Affordable Housing Units.
“The availability of affordable homes in Lake County is a growing problem that needs to be addressed NOW”, urges Smith.
