The BIG Orange

Minneola, Fla –Minneola Artworx is again inviting artists with a vision to transform community spaces to design and implement vibrant, outdoor painted murals that reflect our city. PHASE ONE has been completed with ten spectacular murals adorning the south wall of the Highway 27 overpass. Check them out!

Minneola Artworx, a community arts advocate committee, seeks youth and adult artists to create family-friendly murals that are bright and express our community.  PHASE TWO of the project will place ten new murals on the north exterior wall of the Highway 27 overpass and the South Lake Trail. There are approximately ten panels left. They measure 14’x9’. Artists are encouraged to visit the site to get a feel for the size of the project, the “canvas” being used, and the area being painted.

Both solo and group mural project submissions from artists will be accepted. The deadline is Monday, August 15, 2022. This project is open to the general public. Please go to the Minneola Artworx website; minneolaartworx.org for more information and to download the submission form. All work must be original and painted by the artists.

The artists selected for the project will receive a stipend for an original work to be painted. Minneola Artworx will supply primer, paint and sealer. Artists will be responsible for providing brushes, ladders, tools, etc. Once an artist’s work is selected and completed, the artist will be compensated $500.

Lisa Jones, former city councilwoman and a committee member, stated; ”The murals are intended to enhance the Minneola section of the trail, encourage more foot and bike traffic, and promote community dialogue, all while deterring blight and vandalism”.
