Evander Turner, an 8th grader at Pinecrest Lakes Academy, has the distinguished honor of being a Spelling Bee Champion.
Evander prepares for each spelling bee by studying year-round.
In January of this year, he won his school’s spelling bee and moved on to represent the school at the Scripps 2023 Orlando Regional Spelling Bee in February. In the finals, he dueled against last year’s winner, Aaron Kuebler and won by spelling raglan and stultification.
Evander will go on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Oxon Hill Maryland. Top spellers from across the nation and the globe will gather on May 30th to compete in the nationally televised event.
The event includes four phases of competition with each phase including an elimination process.
The finals will take place on June 1st from 8-10 pm. Each phase of the competition will be aired on ion and ion plus tv. Check https://iontelevision.com for listing times.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is a competition that began in 1925 and is held each year in the United States. Each speller in the competition has previously competed in local contest that is usually organized by a local school or media outlet.
