Support through donations and sponsorships will allow them to expand their offers, increasing our artistic impact in Lake County. LCA registration will open soon for their fall and winter concerts.
What follows is The Good, The Bad, and The Spoilers of Love Hurts.

The Good

Love Hurts marks the directorial debut of Jonathan Eusebio, a seasoned assistant director and stunt coordinator with a rich background in high-octane action films, including Deadpool 2 (2018), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and The Fall Guy (2024). The film features several dynamic fight sequences that showcase Eusebio’s experience, with fast-paced choreography and moments of improvisation that keep the action fresh and unpredictable. These spontaneous elements, combined with sharp, witty dialogue, inject plenty of humor into the film, making for an engaging and action-packed experience.

The Bad

Love Hurts is set around Valentine’s Day and was marketed as the perfect date night movie during its theatrical run. However, the attempt to weave a romantic comedy subplot into what is otherwise a sharp action film often feels forced and out of place, creating a sense of tonal inconsistency. At times, the mix of romance and action detracts from the film’s potential. It might have been more effective if the romance had been sidelined, allowing the movie to embrace its action roots more fully.

My Overall Opinion

I give Love Hurts a firm 7 out of 10. Worth a watch if you are looking for a quirky action movie.

A Movie Review By Anthony Ritter

Michael B. Jordan stars as twin brothers returning to their hometown in Mississippi, determined to escape the troubles they left behind in Chicago. Just as their plans for a fresh start begin to take shape, they discover that something far more sinister has come to welcome them back home.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of Sinners.

The Good

Let’s kick things off with the biggest highlight of Sinners: the music. If you had told me I’d walk out of a vampire horror film thinking, “The music was fantastic and really elevated the whole experience,” I wouldn’t have believed you. But here we are. Sinners masterfully blends blues, jazz, and modern beats to create a soundscape that’s nothing short of spectacular. Throughout the film, you’ll catch yourself tapping your foot to the rhythm — it’s that infectious. The soundtrack doesn’t just sound great; it keeps the movie’s pace steady and engaging from start to finish.

Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld both deliver standout performances. Jordan pulls double duty, portraying twin brothers with strikingly different personalities. As the story unfolds, the contrast between the two grows more pronounced, showcasing his impressive range. It’s the kind of performance that practically begs for award recognition. Steinfeld, meanwhile, gives what might be her most dynamic performance to date — shifting seamlessly from scorned lover to compassionate friend to bloodthirsty killer. She’s absolutely magnetic every step of the way.

The Bad

Sinners is, without a doubt, one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time. Even though the mid-credit scene left me with more questions than answers, it didn’t take away from the experience. Honestly, I couldn’t find a single weak spot — everything just clicked.

My Overall Opinion

I give Sinners a resounding 10 out of 10. This move is a must see in theaters!

A Movie Review By Anthony Ritter

This Valentine Day, a new action romance movie hits Apple TV+. Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy star in this film as two elite operatives who are stationed in guard towers on opposite sides of a top-secret, sprawling gorge. They are tasked with safeguarding the world from a hidden, ominous force. Together, they ensure the secret within remains contained.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of The Gorge.

The Good – I’m not sure why The Gorge was released exclusively on Apple TV+ instead of hitting theaters, as it excels in both action and romance. The creatures from inside the gorge, the hollowmen, are eerie, mysterious, and shown to audiences early in the film. Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy have fantastic chemistry, exchanging witty banter and playing off each other effortlessly. This is even done well at long distance, from opposite sides of a gorge. The mystery keeps audiences engaged, leaving them puzzled yet satisfied, as the film ties up all loose ends—something not always common in this genre.

The Bad – Since The Gorge was released for home viewing, many audiences will be watching it in a typical living room or bedroom rather than a home theater. This presents a challenge, as much of the film—including key suspenseful action sequences—takes place in very dark settings. Any glare on the screen can make these scenes difficult to see, diminishing the experience. The best way to fully appreciate the film’s visuals is to watch it at night with all the lights off.

My Overall Opinion – I give The Gorge a solid 8 out of 10. Although I would rather say you need to see this one in theaters, sadly that is not an option. If you have Apple TV+, you should give this one a watch!

The newest romantic comedy, starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon, makes its debut on Amazon Prime Video. Witherspoon plays Margot, a woman determined to plan her sister’s dream wedding while Will Ferrell plays a father organizing his daughter’s big day. The two discover that their destination weddings at a secluded resort have been double-booked. With no other options, both parties agree to share the intimate venue, leading to unexpected chaos and inevitable disaster.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of You’re Cordially Invited.

The Good

Witherspoon and Ferrell have fantastic on-screen chemistry, effortlessly playing off each other with sharp comedic timing and natural charm. Their dynamic brings energy to the film, making it feel genuine and entertaining. The clash between generational cultures is cleverly woven into the storyline, highlighting the differences in traditions and expectations in a way that feels both authentic and humorous. Additionally, the family dysfunction adds a relatable layer to the comedy, making the mishaps and misunderstandings even funnier. This blend of strong performances and well-executed themes keeps the movie both heartwarming and hilariously chaotic.

The Bad

You’re Cordially Invited suffers from some of the same corny and predictable elements that plague most rom-coms, making certain scenes feel formulaic rather than fresh. The romantic connection between Witherspoon and Ferrell felt forced and lacked genuine chemistry, taking away from the end of the movie. The ending felt like it was added just for the sake of fitting into the rom-com mold rather than serving the story in a meaningful way. In fact, the movie would have been just as enjoyable—if not better—without the romantic subplot, allowing more focus on the comedic and heartfelt moments that actually worked.

My Overall Opinion

I give You’re Cordially Invited a strong 7 out of 10.

If you have Amazon Prime, this one is worth a watch!

A Movie Review By Anthony Ritter

Deadpool & Wolverine explodes into theaters this weekend. In the third installment of the Deadpool films, Deadpool must save his universe from destruction by working with a Wolverine who has already lost everything. Violence, foul language, comedy, and breaking the fourth wall are sure to follow.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Good – This movie does so many things right. Deadpool & Wolverine is the first Deadpool film distributed by Disney and does a perfect job addressing all the previous 20th Century Fox Marvel Films. The cameos throughout the film are great for both the devoted Marvel fanatics as well as the average movie watcher.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine are made to be on screen together. Their warring personalities give constant entertainment. Despite being Disney’s first Deadpool movie, Deadpool & Wolverine vulgar humor is on track with the first 2 films and is exactly what you would expect from a Deadpool film, as is the bloody violence.

The Bad – I did not find anything that I would deem as bad. I think everyone should be wary of seeing this film with kids. Like the previous two Deadpool films, Deadpool & Wolverine is rated R for a good reason. Blood, gore, violence, and sexual references are present in abundance.

My Overall Opinion – I give Deadpool & Wolverine a resounding 10 out of 10.

Deadpool & Wolverine is exactly what I wanted it to be and more. It blends the 20th Century Fox Marvel movies into Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe in a way that will leave fans beyond satisfied. Deadpool & Wolverine easily the best Marvel movie to hit theaters since Avengers: Endgame. I would recommend all Marvel fans see this one as soon as possible before all the spoilers come out.

Two choruses from Clermont placed among the top five in Harmony, Inc.’s Area 6 Convention and Contests that took place in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, April 20th.

Local groups Sisters of Sound and Unaccompanied Minors competed against more than 200 singers from Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee who participated in the regional contest. Sisters of Sound earned a second-place finish, performing “Little Patch of Heaven” and a stirring rendition of “When She Loved Me” from the Disney film Toy Story 2. Unaccompanied Minors, Clermont’s youth chorus, placed fourth in the Area with their fun and energetic performances of “Sunny Side of the Street” and “Blue Skies.” Both choruses have qualified to compete at the Harmony, Inc. International Convention and Contests which will be held in Louisville, KY in November.

Sisters of Sound, founded in 2008 and directed by Tiana Sandh, has consistently placed at the top of the Area 6 rankings and saw a leap in their scores this year that put them only 5 points away from the first-place chorus. “We were so ready for this contest,” reports chorus president Shannon Shelton-Muller, “these ladies work very hard leading up to the contest and when we hit the stage this year we all felt like we were putting something we were proud of in front of the judges and audience.”

Youth chorus Unaccompanied Minors, which is open to young women between the ages of 7 and 25, also brought home the “Audience Choice Award” as well as the “Dazzle Award,” given to the chorus with the greatest increase in performance scores year over year. Olivia Fontana, a 15-year-old singer who has been with the group since she was 8, says ”Competing with UM is something I look forward to every spring. The Harmony organization is so warm and welcoming to us, and we always learn so much from the people who have been singing this style of music for longer than we have been alive!”

In addition to the chorus contest, Area 6 also hosted a quartet contest. Three qualifying quartets hail from Clermont. Serenade, featuring singers Diana Anderson (Bass), Shannon Shelton-Muller (Lead), Katie Rosenblad (Baritone) and Cindy Hunt (Tenor), In A Chord, Alex Riehl (Bass), Tiana Sandh (Lead), Daphne Gunasekera (Baritone), and Kristin Gunaskera (Tenor), and Youth Quartet Daphodyls Olivia Fontana (Bass), Hanan Geda (Lead), Daphne Gunasekera (Baritone), and Emily McDonald (Tenor), all secured spots in Harmony, Inc.’s International Quartet Contest.

Harmony, Inc., an organization that focuses on empowering women through singing, education and friendship, just celebrated its 65th anniversary. Participants in Harmony contests are adjudicated by a panel of trained judges in categories that encompass musical selection and interpretation, quality of singing, and performance.

Sisters of Sound, which is open to singers of all ages and does not require an audition, rehearses Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm. Unaccompanied Minors has a simple on-line audition process on their website and rehearses one Saturday a month. Both groups meet at Aurelia Cole Academy in Clermont.

Together the groups will be presenting an a cappella concert this August, more information will be available online as the show approaches.
