Six of Clermont Middle School’s 8th-grade Falcons were recommended by their math and science teachers to compete in the District STEAM Bowl competition.  This year, the team is comprised of Jacob Cortes, Dalton Stucker, Isabelle Millman, Adam Dashaki, Jack Spackman, Derek Shaffer and team sponsor, Mrs. Amy Herman.

The 3-hour competition included teams from all the middle schools around Lake County.  The competition was comprised of 2 parts, Florida Standard based questions and an Engineering Design Challenge.  The first part of the competition was a series of questions.  Some were time-based where students received varying amounts of points depending on how quickly and accurately they answered the questions.  The other set of questions were performance-based, where students were asked to complete a task and their answer was scored based on a rubric.  The engineering challenge this year was to build a zip line vessel to carry 4 passengers (ping pong balls) quickly and safely along a predetermined length of string.

The scores from the questions along with the final score from the challenge were combined to determine the winners.  With the combined effort from all our Clermont Middle School Falcons, they brought home the first-place trophy and individual metals!  Way to S.O.A.R.!  Go Falcons!!!
