As Lake County students wind down the final days of this school year, district leaders are busy making plans for the school year to come. Included are the recent appointments of two new district-level administrators.

Scott Ward has been named the district’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). For the past several months, Karen Briggs has served in that position while the district continued its search. She is returning to her desired position of Director of Finance. Ward is a CPA with 20 years of governmental accounting experience. He served as the lead senior auditor with the Office of the Auditor General from 1998 to 2004 before moving into school finance as the CFO and then later the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services for the School District of Alachua County. Most recently, Mr. Ward has worked as the Assistant County Manager in Columbia County.

Additionally, Stephanie Mayuski, principal at East Ridge Middle School and the district’s Principal of the Year, is being promoted to Regional Executive Director for Region 3, which includes schools in south Lake. She will replace Wayne Cockcroft, who is retiring on July 1. Mayuski has proudly served south Lake County for 18 years. During that time, she taught at South Lake High and was an administrator at Gray Middle, Pine Ridge Elementary, and East Ridge Middle schools. During her time as principal at East Ridge Middle, she worked with the team to move the school grade from a C to an A. She is a 2017 graduate of the Dr. Brian Dassler Leadership Academy and has continued to support the district’s vision and focus on authentic literacy with targeted feedback and learning walks.

Congratulations to both!
