A Memorial Day observance was held at Clermont Waterfront pavilion on Lake Minneola in remembrance of the men and women from Lake County who died while serving in the American Armed Forces.  The program was sponsored by the Sgt. I.W. Hatcher, Jr. South Lake Marine Corp Detachment; Tomoka Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; VFW Post #5277 and Korean War Veterans. Mayor Gail Ash represented the City of Clermont at the ceremony.

The South Lake High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp posted the colors and Blessed Sacrament Knights of Columbus participated in the ceremony.

In an especially stirring moment, a floral arrangement was presented to Susan Miller, mother of Army Spc. Alexander Miller. Alexander, a former student at South Lake High and later East Ridge High School, was killed in 2009 at the age of 21 years old while serving his country in Afghanistan.
