Fifty-one years ago, George Hovis, a local attorney and then president of the Clermont Chamber of Commerce, came up with an idea to kick off the school year by hosting an Appreciation Breakfast to honor the teachers of the south Lake community.  Since then the size of the community has grown but there is one thing that remains ongoing: The community’s respect and appreciation on its teachers.

Poor Guy. He doesn’t look too happy about beginning the school year.

This year, The South Lake Chamber of Commerce and Pig on the Pond hosted over 1,000 teachers, administrators, and educators at the Annual Teacher Appreciation Breakfast on Monday, August 6th for all Middle and High school level teachers and Tuesday, August 7th for all Elementary school level teachers.

Each teacher attending the breakfast received a goody bag filled with items worth more than $100.  There were tons of door prizes, giveaways, awards and scholarships provided by community sponsors, as well as volunteers who helped make the celebration a memoriable event.
