Kevin Grogan of Gear for Multisport recently interviewed Coach Kevin Boyle of Montverde Academy at the September South Lake Chamber of Commerce Breakfast.

Kevin Boyle is widely recognized nationally as one of the premier High School Basketball Coaches in the United States. For over two decades, Coach Boyle has coached elite high school programs at St. Patrick, NJ and Montverde Academy. His teams have been ranked in the nation’s top 25 in various national polls such as MaxPreps.com, ESPN Rise, and USA Today in each season over the last 20 years. Boyle led St. Pats to four TOC Championships in 1998, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2009, eight Parochial North Championships, and 15 Union County Championships.  St. Patrick was ranked #1, six times during his tenure by The Newark Star Ledger.

In 2011 under Boyle in just his first season, Montverde Academy was ranked 12th nationally by ESPN and reached the finals of the ESPN National Boy’s High School Championship, which was televised nationally on ESPN.

He is considered by many college coaches as one of the best teacher’s and strategists of the game on and off the court. Coach Boyle’s accomplishments are rooted in his unwavering desire and capability to develop the highest performing teams and student-athletes.

Coach Boyle has been honored by being named the Head Coach for the USA Junior National team at the 2012 USA Nike Hoop Summit.  He also was chosen the 2011 Naismith National Coach of the Year, 2009 ESPN/Rise Coach of the Year, and the 2007 USA Today Coach of the Year. He has also served as Head Coach for the Jordan Brand Classic on three different occasions where he has coached players such as Lebron James, Blake Griffin, and Derrick Rose.

Boyle has helped develop more than 50 NCAA Division-I scholarship athletes and more than 15 professional players including Kyrie Irving (#1 NBA pick 2011), Michael Kidd Gilchrest (#2 NBA pick 2012), Samuel Dalembert and Al Harrington. Boyle is the only high coach to produce the #1 and #2 NBA draft picks in consecutive years (2011, 2012).

Coach Boyle is a former student-athlete and graduate of St. Peter’s University where he is second on the single-season assist list. He began his collegiate career at Seton Hall University under Head Coach Bill Raftery.
