Duke Energy park and plug charging station in parking garage

Lake County is proud to receive one of more than 500 electric vehicle charging stations that Duke Energy is installing in the Florida service area.

In August, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners approved an agreement with Duke Energy for the installation of an electric vehicle charging station in the parking garage in downtown Tavares. In September, Duke Energy installed the EV charging station, at no cost to Lake County, and will also maintain and repair the equipment through the end of the pilot program in 2022.

Users of the charging station will be assessed a fee for energy-related costs, the external network provider then collects all fees and will reimburse Lake County for energy charges collected.

“We are thrilled to partner with Duke Energy to bring this pilot program to Lake County,” said Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks. “Being chosen as a host site for this advanced technology positions Lake County as a leader in supporting clean electric transportation.”

The pilot program is one of the many ways Duke Energy is paving the way to a smarter energy future in Florida.

“I’m excited about the opportunities the Park and Plug pilot program will provide for our customers in Lake County and throughout the state,” said Catherine Stempien, Duke Energy Florida president. “We are committed to providing smarter, cleaner energy alternatives for all our customers.”

Duke Energy is also in the process of installing three charging ports at Cagan Crossings Library in Clermont.
