South Lake Pain Institute, a multi-site pain management practice serving Central Florida with offices in Clermont and Orlando is pleased to announce the Florida Board of Medicine changes to allow for pain management telehealth in the wake of COVID-19.

The Florida Board of Medicine has approved an exception for the next 30-days to allow pain management physicians to prescribe controlled substances without a physical examination, but rather via telehealth visit. Telehealth allows the provider and patient to connect virtually using a smartphone or internet-enabled device.

Dr. Julie Saranita, D.O. says, “We applaud the decision of the Florida Board of Medicine. A large volume of our patient population is elderly or immunocompromised-a weakened immune system due to underlying conditions. Nationally we are seeing an uptick in COVID-19 cases so everyone is providing care in an abundance of caution, this another way we can do that and ease patient fear.”

Dr. Julio Paez, M.D. adds,” When we say ‘telehealth,’ we’re basically saying that we’re using technology to deliver or collaborate in health care. South Lake Pain Institute has been a leader in evidence-based techniques to improve patient outcomes and experience. The key message to our patients is we are not closing down, we are here for you, but if you don’t have to be here, we want to protect you and your families and our workforce by not having unnecessary exposure.”
