Imagine South Lake Charter dedicated a Liberty Tree which was given to the school by the
Sons of the American Revolution.Imagine South Lake Charter in Clermont, Florida held a Liberty Tree dedication ceremony on Friday, November 12, 2021. The Lake-Sumter Chapter, Florida Society, Sons of the American Revolution presented the American elm tree to Imagine South Lake Charter in recognition of their excellence in character education.
The first Liberty Tree was planted in Boston in 1646. That tree was a meeting place and symbol for freedom during the American Revolution. Colonists filled the original Liberty Tree with lanterns to celebrate the repeal of the Stamp Act in March of 1766. Sadly, British troops and loyalists cut the tree down in August of 1766.
“The Liberty Tree was an early symbol of rebellion by the colonies against the oppression of the British King. It was a rallying point for early patriots in the city of Boston who rebelled against oppressive taxes by British Crown. Over time, the tree became a symbol of resistance to tyranny and Americans’ unity for liberty and independence,” stated Allan Lane, Chaplain of the Lake-Sumter Chapter. He continued, “We selected Imagine South Lake Charter School because of its long history in academics and in values education.”
