Here is your chance to race through one of the largest and most beautiful tree farms in the country, right here in Groveland.  The Cherrylake Farm Races, presented by Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, is getting ready for the 2022 event on February 5th. Participants can choose a 5k, 10k and duathlon, all of which run through the rolling tree-lined hills of the local tree farm. This is the 5th year Cherrylake is hosting the event which draws participants from across the United States as well as some of the local area’s renowned triathletes and athletes.

“This race is truly unique because of the clay road terrains, the hills and the ability for both amateurs and professionals to enjoy the course. The community spirit is always very high at this race,” says Kimberly Grogran, Race Director and owner of Dash Sports in Downtown Clermont. Kimberly is one of the premier race directors in Central Florida putting on 9 races for FloDash and other partner races such as the Cherrylake Farm Races.

Cherrylake is a 2nd generation, working family farm that grows ornamental trees and provides landscape construction and maintenance services in Central Florida. Many locals experience the striking views of 1,100 acres of tree-lined hills and natural ponds from the farm’s perimeter on Cherry Lake Road, a popular cycling destination or whizzing by on State Road 19. The Farm Races are a rare opportunity to dive into the heart of this local farm and experience its beauty in a whole new way.

The duathlon race consists of a 5k run through the tree-lined trails on the farm, a bike on the paved, rolling hills of Groveland, and finishes with a 2.5k run on the trails. The 5k attracts a variety of participants including seasoned runners and those who want to leisurely walk the farm and get the chance to get up close with Cherrylake’s rolling hills and endless rows of trees. The 10k takes participants even deeper into the farm with a path that goes through most of the property passing through thousands of Magnolias, Oak Trees, Bald Cypress and Crape Myrtles.

“This top-quality race would not be possible without the support of committed sponsors and community volunteers.” Marketing Manager, Caraline Jones at Cherrylake, explains “We have had tremendous support from the local business and community as well as our Presenting Sponsor Orlando Health, South Lake Hospital. We love the opportunity to connect with our local community and share the beauty of our farm through an event that promotes wellness and sustainability. It checks all our boxes!”

The proceeds from the Farm Races support Lake County School’s agriculture and beautification projects and have provided over $18,000 to help build greenhouses in elementary schools, purchase farm equipment in high schools, and plant trees throughout the community. In addition, through its 1,000 Trees for 1,000 Years program, Cherrylake commits to plant one tree in a protected conservation area for each race participant.
