On Saturday morning, June 12, the City of Clermont and the Clermont Police Department hosted their second Pups in the Park event. Dogs of all breeds, ages, and sizes gathered to begin their fun-filled day at Lake Hiawatha Preserve, 450 12th St. Clermont.
Dogs were encouraged to bring their two-legged human companions to an exciting day celebrating pups and police officers. Last year’s inaugural event was an idea to expand the popular “Coffee with a Cop” program and encourage more residents to get to know local police officers.
“Since so many of our residents and visitors have dogs in their families, we thought this was a good way to meet even more people and some pretty cool dogs,” Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway said. “When an officer is needed, it is usually a very stressful situation. This offers a fun, relaxed opportunity to meet your Clermont Police Officers.”
A doggie swimsuit competition began at 10 am with prizes awarded to the best-dressed male, best-dressed female, most creative and honorable mentioned pups.
It was ruff to select winners but all the contestants remained paws-itve . An onlooker remarked, “The hot dogs are lapping up the attention of the Pup-a-razzi”.
