On Tuesday, August 9, Clermont City Council addressed concerns regarding an amendment approved in 2021 relating to watercraft rental businesses. The proposed revision would limit the number of Jet Skis available for rent per day and the number of authorized Jet Ski rental companies in operation at the Clermont Boat Ramp. It would also create a policy that would assist staff in tracking Jet Ski rental usage.

After deliberation, City Council passed a revision to the Ordinance governing Jet Ski rentals launched at the Clermont Boat ramp at Waterfront Park. The amendment …

    • Allowed renters to beach jet skis up to 1 hour between rentals.  This should help congestion on the ramps.
    • Reduced the total number of Rental Operators from 9 to 5.
    • Forbid private rentals of watercraft in the City.  Companies must be Licensed and Insured.
    • ALL renters are required to have identifying information on their watercraft.
    • Rental reservations must be made 24 hours in advance and sent to the City.  A Park Ranger and/or a Clermont Police Officer will be available at time of launch.

The ordinance should provide more control of a problematic situation and less congestion at the city’s ramp.

Protect Lake Minneola and those enjoying it. Contact the Clermont Police Department if you see someone abusing water safety regulations.
